Feeding signs parents and nursing mothers often notice:
- Difficulty latching or staying latched
- Long, exhausting feeds that never seem to satisfy
- Clicking sounds while nursing
- Gassiness from swallowed air
- Nipple pain or damage for the nursing mother
- Slow weight-gain concerns raised by your pediatrician
What you may see: a tongue that cannot lift or extend well, sometimes with a heart-shaped notch at the tip when it tries; an upper lip that cannot flange outward for a seal.
