During sedation, your child is monitored throughout the visit, and our team explains what to expect – before, during, and after – so you are never guessing. If you have questions about any sedation option, we encourage you to ask - helping parents feel informed is part of the care.

Sedation Dentistry Frequently Asked Questions
Sedation is a well-established option when administered by trained professionals following strict protocols. Our team reviews your child's health history before recommending any option and monitors your child throughout the visit.
It depends on the option. Nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation help your child feel relaxed but awake; general anesthesia means your child is fully asleep for the procedure.
Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes after treatment. Oral sedation can take several hours to wear off, so plan a restful day. After general anesthesia, children need a longer recovery and should rest for the remainder of the day. We provide detailed instructions before and after every sedation visit.
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is mild, works within minutes, and wears off almost immediately – great for routine visits with light anxiety. Oral conscious sedation is a prescribed medication taken before the visit that provides deeper relaxation for kids who need more support or longer treatment. Your dentist will help you choose.
Your dentist will evaluate your child's health history, anxiety level, age, and treatment needs, then recommend the option that fits. Bring your questions – choosing together is part of the visit.
Coverage varies by plan. We accept most insurance plans, as well as Medicaid and CHIP, and our team can help verify your benefits and provide cost estimates before treatment.
